The Costs That Less Than A Cup Of Tea

Talking about menstruation itself is taboo in India. But here is a man
from Uttar Pradesh who not only designed low- cost sanitary napkins
for poor women but is also providing lakhs of women regular
employment through his initiative.
.
Rural women in villages face many problems during menstruation.
Sanitary napkins available in the market are very costly. Poor girls
and ladies cannot buy them.
.
Mahesh Khandelwal is a scientist in India. He understood their problem.
Then he started researching the market and other issues related to
sanitary pads. He read about the problems, possible solutions and best alternatives in the current scenario.

.
Later Mahesh Khandelwal designed “WE” sanitary napkins, which cost
only Rs. 10 per packet of six pads. "WE" napkins are also more
lightweight compared to other napkins. These napkins absorb more
leakage and last for around 12 hours as compared to other napkins
which last for nearly six hours.
.
In addition to designing the low cost sanitary napkin, Khandelwal has
also designed an affordable machine to make these products. The
machine costs just Rs. 1 lakh. The technology in this machine is so
simple. After very little training, women can easily start manufacturing
the pads. Using this machine, ten women can manufacture 2,000
packets of sanitary napkins in a day. The machine is designed in such
a way that it requires electricity for just two hours. The rest of the work
can be done manually. As many rural areas in the country lack proper
power supply, this machine can be an ideal solution.
.
In Gujarat, India, now a days, with very low cost, many poor women are
using his "WE" sanitary napkins satisfactorily. Many women started their
own business of making these napkins, using a very low cost machine.
Many women got employment by making these napkins. Many women
are getting 5000 to 6000 rupees every month, by selling them. In these
multiple ways, honourable Mr.Mahesh Khandelwal changed the lives of thousands of women.
