Three years ago, an 18 year old teenager, Ritesh Agarwal, from a   small town went to New Delhi. He went to a small lodge (hotel) and
took a room. The room was bad. It has no proper ventilation. The
fan was not working. The bed was smelling bad. He felt
uncomfortable to stay there. He understood that hundreds and
thousands of people face the same problematic situation when they
go to other cities and stay in hotels. He understood that thousands
of small hotels in India has the same bad condition. He understood
that luxurious and expensive hotels have their own websites and
online booking facility. But small hotels don't have websites and online
booking facility. Ritesh understood these three things.

His understanding about this bad condition of hotels created a new
business idea in his mind. Immediately He stopped going to college.
With a little money he created a web site called "OYO ROOMS". He
went to a hotel and talked to the manager "Sir, your's is a small
unknown hotel. It has no brand name. I will create a brand name and recognition to your hotel, India wide. If your hotel's name is mentioned
in my online hotel booking website, people all over India can see your
hotel's name. They believe that rooms in your hotel are in good
standard. They will book your hotel rooms via mobile phones and my
web site. But you have to do one thing. From today on wards, you
should keep all the beds and furniture clean. All the fans should work
properly. Room service should be perfect. After registering your
hotel's name in my web site, after 3 months, you will see number of
customers to your hotel is really increased. Then, if you believe, you
are getting more business from my web site, give me 10% of money
from your profit."
The hotel manager thought deeply and understood his idea was
beneficial. He made all his hotel rooms and furniture clean and kept
them in working order. After 3 months, customers to his hotel became
double. Then Ritesh started his journey of searching small hotels. He
went to thousands of small hotels in Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida,
Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Goa, Chennai,
Kolkata. He met hotel managers, talked with them and listed their
hotel names in his web site. Business of all the small hotels was
drastically developed.
Later Ritesh requested all these hotel managers to update their hotels
with modern accessories. Now all these hotels have features such as
an air-conditioner, TV, complimentary breakfast and Wi-Fi with 24x7
customer service support.
Today more than 10,000 hotels in 250 cities are listed in OYO ROOMS.
All these hotels have same good facilities. Without going and seeing a
hotel in a far distant city, a customer can strongly say "A hotel in OYO
rooms is very good with great facilities".
Usually teenage young boys think about girls, movies, friends and
parties. But Ritesh Agarwal, in his teenage, thought about a small idea,
believed he could provide more business to small hotels and worked
16 hours a day.
Within 3 years, he created a business empire worth 360 crores of
Indian rupees (54 millions of US dollors). Now 100+ employees are
working in his company. All are between 25 to 50 years old. But the
Managing direct and CEO of OYO ROOMs, Mr. Ritesh Awargal is 21
years old. Recently this "always busy" young man started his business
in Malaysia.
