Many years ago, one stormy night, it was raining heavily in Philadelphia, USA. An elderly man and his wife entered the
lobby of a small hotel. The couple approached the front desk clerk.

“Could you possibly give us a room here?” – the husband asked.
The clerk was a friendly man with a winning smile. He looked
at the couple and explained that there were three conventions
in town. He said “All of our rooms are filled, but I can’t send a
nice couple like you out into the rain at one o’clock in the
morning. Would you like to sleep in my room? It’s not exactly
a suite, but it will be good enough to make you comfortable
for the night.”

The clerk said again. “Don’t worry about me, I will adjust myself fine”.
Then the couple agreed to sleep in the clerk's room.
The next morning, when the old man was paying the bill, he said
to the clerk, “You are a very kind man. You are suitable to be
the manager of the best hotel. Maybe someday I will build one for you.”

a good laugh. The elderly couple were satisfied a lot with the
nice friendly nature of the clerk in that hotel. Because finding
such kind of both friendly and helpful persons is not easy.

Two years passed. The clerk had almost forgotten the incident.
One day he received a letter from the old man. He asked the clerk
to pay a friendly visit to New York.

of Fifth Avenue and 34th Street. Then he pointed to a great new
building there, a pale reddish stone, with turrets and watchtowers
thrusting up to the sky.

The old man said “That is the hotel I have just built for you to manage"
“You must be joking" – the young man said.
“I'm sure I'm not joking. From today onward you will be the manager
of this hotel” – said the older man, a smile playing around his mouth.

magnificent structure was the world famous, costliest, and luxurious
"Waldorf-Astoria Hotel". The young clerk who became its first
manager was George C. Boldt. This young clerk never expected
the luck of becoming the manager of the world’s most glamorous
hotel chains.
