What They Need

A man was living alone. He thought he could avoid his loneliness
by having a bird.

One day he went to a pet store to buy a parrot.
He loved a parrot and bought it. The very next day,
he came back  and complained, "That bird is not talking."
.
The store owner asked if he had a mirror in its cage.
The man said he did not put any mirror in the cage.

"Oh, parrots love mirrors," the store owner explained.
"When he sees his reflection in the mirror, he will just start talking."
.
Then the store owner sold him a birdcage mirror. But the next day,
the man returned to the store again and said that the bird did not talk.
.
"That's very peculiar," said the pet expert. "How about a swing?
Birds really love little swings, and a happy parrot is a talkative parrot."
.
So the man bought a swing, took it home, and installed it in the cage.
But again he was back the next day with the same story.
.
"Does the parrot have a ladder to climb?" the store owner asked.
"That is the problem. Once he has a ladder, he will start talking".
.
Then the man bought a ladder. Again the next day, the man was
back to the pet store. From the look on his face, the owner knew
something was wrong.
.
"Did not your parrot like the ladder?" he asked.
.
His repeat customer looked up and said, "The parrot died."
.
"I'm so sorry," the stunned businessman said.
"Did he ever say anything?"
.
The man said "Yes. The bird finally talked just before he died.
In a weak little voice, he asked me,
"At the pet store, Don't they sell any bird seed to feed me?""
.
We love our parents, wives, husbands and children. But most of the
times, we don't know what they want and need.

Loving a person is not enough. We should understand what they want and need...
